Fort Bend County Crime Stoppers, Inc. was founded and is based on the supposition that law enforcement does not have a monopoly on information regarding crimes and those who perpetrate them. However, for many persons fear of reprisal, attitudes of apathy and not wanting to "get involved" often keeps citizens from offering helpful information to the appropriate agency. These fears can be overcome by keeping the identities of persons with information anonymous and by offering rewards as an incentive to share that information.
